Phthalates are dangerous chemicals that are used as fragrant plasticizers. They can be found almost anywhere including PVC, vinyl, cosmetics, and medical IV bags.
Phthalates are compounds and, therefore, not elements. They are man-made and do not chemically combine with the material that they are added to. (So pretty much, phthalates do not form compounds with anything else.)
